Hannibal has turned the Mark Twain home and related buildings into a tourist site.
Twain based his characters and stories on real events and places in Hannibal, and the main buildings and historical main street are well preserved.
Above is the Betty Thatcher home in Hannibal. She was Tom Sawyer’s first love, based on Mark Twain’s first infatuation.
The cave in Tom Sawyer is real, huge, and I toured it. Hannibal was a key interest that attracted me to this trip, and I am pleased to have had from 11:30 am here. Cool to see the stories illustrated with real life props.
The roads in prior photos are really as empty and quiet as they look. The MRT is routed on rural and secondary roads, and makes for quiet pleasant riding.
Carrie now rides consistently faster than me, so we set a destination in the morning and each roll at our own pace. Then we get to talk in the evening, or today we met for lunch and in a coffee shop after I sated my tourist wanderings in all that is Twain.
